Meet the WausauUltra Crew: The Team Behind 571 North Aid Station

Meet the WausauUltra Crew at 571 North Aid Station!

If you've been through the 571 North Aid Station at Midwest States 100, you already know that the WausauUltra crew doesn't simply host an aid station. They create an experience.

Every year, this top-notch team of ultrarunners somehow dreams up new ways to make their station even more spectacular than the year before. They understand what runners need because they've been there themselves, and they bring that experience, energy, and attention to detail to every runner who comes through.

One of our favorite traditions is their runner bell. As you approach the aid station, you'll find a bell hanging along the trail. Give it a ring and the entire crew knows you're coming before they can even see you! πŸ””

By the time you arrive, they're ready for you.

And when we say this crew thinks of everything, we mean everything. Great food, enthusiastic volunteers, problem solving, encouragement, and plenty of fun. You never quite know what they might add next, but you can count on 571 North being a place where tired runners get taken care of and leave with a little more life in their legs.

More Than an Aid Station: Meet WausauUltra

WausauUltra isn't just an event that comes around once a year. It's a mindset.

Founded in 2021 and based in Wausau, Wisconsin, WausauUltra is built around chasing that powerful feeling you get when the miles get hard and you decide to keep going anyway.

Everyone's limit looks different. Their philosophy is simple:

Meet yourself where you are, then push a little beyond it.

Each spring, WausauUltra invites runners to test their own threshold with several event options:

  • Limitless – a backyard-style endurance event

  • Double – 2 Γ— 4-mile trail loops

  • Solo – 1 Γ— 4-mile trail loop

They also host free monthly group runs, giving runners the opportunity to share the trails with a community built around encouragement, empowerment, and discovering what you're capable of.

And that community spirit is exactly why WausauUltra and Ornery Mule Racing fit together so well.

In their words:

β€œWe love volunteering at Ornery Mule events, because their crew truly gets it. They bring incredible camaraderie that makes race day feel like community, not just competition. Their dedication to their runners matches exactly what we believe in at WausauUltra.”

The feeling is absolutely mutual.

Thank you to the entire WausauUltra crew for continuing to show up for our runners and bringing your creativity, experience, and huge energy to Midwest States year after year. Aid stations like 571 North are part of what makes this race so special.

And to our runners, the WausauUltra crew has one final message:

β€œCan't wait to see you all at 571 North Aid Station! Come ready to soak up the good vibes, good food, excellent peopleβ€”and maybe even be ready to make a splash! πŸ˜‰β€

Ring that bell loud. πŸ””

They're waiting for you.
